Trekking Colca Canyon 3 days

Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay - Cabanaconde - San Juan de Chuccho

At 3:00 am we will pick you up from your hotel by the touristic transport. After 3 hours of riding we are going to arrive to the town of Chivay, where we will have our breakfast. Another 1 1/2 hours in the bus, we will reach Cruz del Condor, where we will have a stop to obsverve the flight of the majestic Andean condor. About 15 minutes of driving we arrive to the San Miguel lookout point, which is near to the village fo Cabanaconde. There we start our walk down into the canyon, passing trough small villages, which are dotted along the mountainside and green agricultural terraces by the canyon walls. The trek will take about 3 hours down to the river at the bottom of the canyon. Here we cross the bridge to arrive in the village of San Juan de Chuccho, where we spend the night.

Day 2: San Juan de Chuccho - Cosnirgua - Malata - Sangalle

After a relaxing night and a delicious breakfast, we continue our trek along the other side of the canyon, walking trough villages of Coshñirgua and Malata, before descending to the lowest point of the canyon, the Oasis. Arriving at the Oasis around 13:00 in the afternoon, we got the change to spend a relaxing afternoon by the pool (temperature approximately 23 degrees) and enjoy an evening at the bar and around the bonfire before resting in our comfortable accommodation.

Day 3: Sangalle - Cabanaconde - Chivay - Arequipa

The day starts early at 4:00 am for climbing up the canyon, by torch and starlight (such a climb is fiercely hot by day).  There is also the option to rent a mule, if you feel very tired or don't want to walk up the canyon. After our trek of about 2-3 hours up the canyon expect us a delicious breakfast of pancakes with jam or scrambled eggs at the Valle de Fuego hostel. From there the tourist transport will pick us up from the plaza in Cabanaconde between 9 and 10 in the morning. We are going to drive back to Chivay, stopping there at the lookout point to see the complex pre-Incan terraces of the middles valley. In Chivay we take a dip in the hot pools at La Calcera and also have our lunch there, which is a buffet. We will be back in Arequipa around 6 in the afternoon.
